Audience and Agenda:
The Journal of Palestine Studies is, according to its website, the only North American journal devoted exclusively to Palestinian affairs. It is published by the University of California Press and the Institute for Palestine Studies, a non-profit Arab research organization. Its total circulation reaches roughly 3000 people. The Institute has had an endowment since the 1960s and receives donations form individual donors and various corporations.
Usefulness:
There is a long-standing disagreement between Israel and Palestine regarding Jews who fled Israel during the Arab-Israeli conflict in 1948. Those involved wish to be compensated for the property and the United States has passed a resolution that supports Israel’s claims. In 2000, Israel dropped its claim and, with Palestine, concluded individual compensation would be paid to all sides from an international fund. However, more recently, a new strategy based on property exchange has surfaced.
